Weddings in Hawaii

Local minister Rev. Mark's Oahu Wedding and Renewal services include traditional elements with Hawaiian wedding prayers and blessings.

MinisterAloha! I am a local minister, licensed with the State of Hawaii. My wife, Diane, and I are committed to helping make your special day a beautiful, romantic, and meaningful occasion with a choice of services and many wonderful Hawaii wedding locations almost anywhere on Oahu at very reasonable rates with as little stress to you as possible.

My marriage ceremony is low-key and informal, but with all the romance, dignity, and meaning of the traditional wedding service. It is my hope that, regardless of your religious background, if any, your wedding will be a very personal and profound sharing of your commitment and love to each other, the memories of which will bless you for years to come. At your request, I'll even sing the beautiful "Hawaiian Wedding Song".

Hawaiian Wedding Musics - Hawaiian Wedding SongsWe understand any apprehension you may have entrusting your wedding to folks you've never met - so far away. You will appreciate the gracious, efficient way my wife Diane, with whom I have been blessed with almost 40 years of marriage, will coordinate all of your wedding arrangements. Perhaps the many wonderful comments on our Clients' Comments page on this website - from couples, just like you, will encourage you. And once your wedding is confirmed with us, we will send you our unique and exclusive, complimentary "Your AlohaForever Wedding" packet, full of important information and local tips regarding, not only the unique challenges of an outdoor wedding here, but your visit to Hawaii in general, including restaurants and visitor sites we can recommend (anonymously - we get no kick-backs of any kind from any of them).

Diane and I look forward to helping make your wedding day one filled with wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime memories.

Mahalo and Aloha,
Rev. Mark Yasuhara

Hawaii Wedding Locations

Unless otherwise specifically stated, all the Hawaii wedding locations are on the island of Oahu just minutes from Waikiki. Hawaii has many beautiful potential wedding sites - and we will be happy to consider any location of this island (Oahu), or any island, for that matter. However, we recommend these wedding locations for these reasons.

  • Cost: They're either free or very reasonably priced.
  • Convenience: Most are very close to Waikiki hotels.
  • Facilities: They all have restrooms.
  • Parking: All have (limited) free parking.
  • Accessibility: The wedding ceremonies take place relatively close to the parking areas and are wheel-chair accessible.
  • View: Great scenic backdrops perfect for weddings.
  • Privacy: As one might expect, the free locations are very popular, not only for weddings, but to the general public. However, each of them offers areas of relative privacy away from the crowds.

With few exceptions, because of the salt air, flowers do not flourish near ocean shores except for those on the specially tended private grounds of estates and hotels. Our garden locations boast lush tropical greenery in natural settings.

The only waterfall location we recommend is on the grounds of the Pagoda Restaurant and Hotel near Waikiki, by reservation only. However, both the Kahala Mandarin Oriental and the Hilton Hawaiian Village offer waterfall locations - at a much more substantial fee. All other waterfall locations are popular - and usually crowded - tourist attractions, require some walking, and are inland where it tends to be rainy and wet. There are no accessible waterfalls near the ocean on this island.

Additional site fees are indicated.

Waialae Beach Park

Free!  Easily accessible, this is the perfect “bare-foot" on the beach location on the shores of Honolulu's premier residential neighborhood.  Public facilities and free parking make this a popular family beach with the stunning backdrop of the majestic Koolau mountains.

Hawaii Wedding Photography and Video

Professional wedding photos and videos become even more treasured over the years. This is especially true of your Aloha Forever Hawaii Weddings. Hawaii's legendary sun-lit vistas, sparkling oceans and lush foliage are best captured through the lens of a congenial, reputable professional who has had many years of experience recording wedding memories at the sites we use.

Our professional photographers use high mega-pixal digital, taking up to, and often more than, twice as many shots than a photo package calls for, from which your printed photos are selected.

A photo CD is much like film negatives from which any photo service like WalMart can make reprints as well as other options like email.

A second photo location (in the Honolulu area) can be added for an additional $80. Speak with our wedding consultant who can assist you with any arrangements.

Videos are usually fully edited depending on your choice. Under normal circumstances, your photos and/or video will be delivered to your hotel within 3-4 days after your ceremony. If your schedule has you leaving the island before this time period, they will be mailed to your forwarding address and a shipping & handling fee will be charged. Your video may be ordered in VHS or DVD.

We offer lovely Wedding Bouquets and matching Boutonnieres as well as beautiful, fragrant Hawaiian Lei. A symbol of honor, respect, and Aloha, lei is usually worn by the bride and groom (and often parents and wedding guests). In the Hawaiian tradition, with the couple's permission, the bride and groom exchange their lei with each other just before the Wedding Kiss. Often, the bride will choose both a Bouquet and Hawaiian lei.

Hawaiian Wedding Music

Hawaiian Wedding Musics - Hawaiian Wedding Songs We have been professional musician/ministers for many years and as such we recognize the significance of meaningful, well-presented music at weddings. Our rendition of "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" can be heard by clicking on the CD icon at the bottom of this page. Or you may prefer the soft strains of a classical guitar or a harp and flute. Or perhaps a contemporary-Hawaiian performer who may sing your special song. Or a Hawaiian trio with a beautiful hula dancer.  Or maybe you would prefer to bring a favorite CD which we can play during the ceremony.  Talk to us.  If we can do it, we will do it and we will do it right - at amazingly reasonable rates.

The Hawaiian Wedding Song

"The Hawaiian Wedding Song" is, strangely enough, not its original title. It was composed by Charles E. King, Hawaii's celebrated composer of the first half of the 20th century, as "Ke Kali Nei Au" (Waiting for Thee) for his operetta, "The Prince of Hawaii" which premiered at the Hawaii Theater on May 4, 1925. It was first recorded on Columbia Records, by legendary Hawaiian musicians Helen Kapuailohia Desha Beamer and Sam Kapu in the same classic duet style sung by Mark and Diane today. Years later, both Andy Williams' and Elvis Presley's distinctive recordings of the song popularized it around the world for generations to come. Although the beautiful English lyric is not a translation of the original Hawaiian, it is recognized by millions.

Mark Yasuhara and Diane Yasuhara

Mark and Diane were both born and raised in Hawaii, he in Hilo on the Big Island, and she in Honolulu. They were married on Father's Day, 1967 and have two grown daughters. Between 1969 and 1989, Mark and Diane recorded and concertized in some of the greatest concert halls and churches in America as "The Hawaiians." Their music ministry included several international crusade telecasts with Dr. Billy Graham. They recorded 14 albums all of which are now out of print. Rev. Mark Yasuhara and Diane marry hundreds of couples on this beautiful island of Oahu every year.

Limousine Service

This is one of the biggest days of your life.  Go all out!  Forget the hassles of parking and long, sweaty walks in your wedding finery.  Leave the driving to a genial, seasoned professional who will pick you up at your hotel, deliver you to your wedding site and take you back to your hotel.  We have the limo of your dreams, luxurious and roomy, complete with complimentary champagne upon request.  The following rates are per hour with a two hour minimum.

All prices are per hour, 2 hour minimum.
Type
Price
Presidential Stretch, 7 passengers $80.00
Super Stretch, 8-10 passengers $95.00
Excalibur, 4 passengers $95.00
Mini Bus, 25 passengers $130.00
Luxury Motor Coach, 53 passengers $160.00

Marriage License in Hawaii

All the information you need can be easily accessed by clicking on http://www.hawaii.gov/doh. You may download your application paperwork directly from this website. There is no blood test and processing is immediate with your ID. Both bride and groom are required to apply together at the Department of Health in Honolulu. The fee is $60.00 cash. We suggest taking The Bus (Honolulu rapid transit) or a taxi to and from the Department of Health as it is located on one of the most congested blocks of the downtown/Civic area. The no-left-turns and one-way streets can be very confusing.

Our Forever Aloha Premium Wedding Package provides for a limo to pick you up at your hotel, take you to the Department of Health and return you back to your hotel.

Wedding Vow Renewals

Hawaii is a favorite destination for couples celebrating wedding anniversaries.  Many choose to reaffirm their marriage commitment with a renewal service that mirrors Mark's wedding ceremony with minor adjustments applicable to marriage renewals.  A special, frame-ready, Marriage Renewal certificate is included.  Any wedding package and/or option can be applied to these special celebrations.

Hawaii Wedding Attires

This is Hawaii. There is no dress code, especially for your own private wedding ceremony.  Couples may exchange their marriage vows dressed casually or in the full wedding regalia of a formal tuxedo and a wedding gown complete with cathedral train. Its entirely up to you. Please ask us about the great rental rates we can get you on our formal tuxedos or one of our hundreds of wedding gowns.

Hawaii Wedding Tips

THE BIG DAY
Get a good night's rest before the day of your wedding. Plan your day so that the hour before you leave for the wedding site is relaxed and calm. The last thing you want is to be rushed and out-of-sorts. Remember to bring everything you will need for the ceremony including your marriage license. Be on time. Unless pre-arranged, all AlohaForever weddings are scheduled for one hour.

PARKING

All of the venues we offer include adequate parking except for Diamond Head Beach Park. Diamond Head Road is a crowded, two-lane, winding street.  It is illegal to park or even load and unload at the parks entrance.  Parking is limited and located a good city block's walk up a hill from the park

GUESTS
Many of the weddings we celebrate consist of only the bride and groom.  However, the ceremonies often do include any number of guests whose presence bless and enhance the celebration.  We only ask that guests be appropriately dressed and sober and that children be accompanied by responsible adults.  There is no seating at any of the outdoor venues.

WEATHER
Hawaii is world-famous for its beautiful climate where a wedding on a picturesque beach is a natural.  However, its lush landscapes do require a certain amount of rainfall.  Most days are sunny and clear with Hawaiis amazing intermittent, rainbow-producing, “good-luck, cooling mist wafting down from the Koolau Mountain.  But there is the occasional tropical storm which can blow through at almost any time of the year.  Although we have never had a wedding rained-out, that is not to say it cannot happen.  We do not provide a “rain option".  However, in the rare event of inclement weather, you may choose to move your wedding to the sanctuary of the First Christian Church of Honolulu at a special rate available only through AlohaForever weddings. Please note: Honolulu is located on the drier Leeward or south side of the island of Oahu.  The Windward or north side where the Moli'i Gardens at Kualoa Ranch is located, receives quite a bit more rainfall than the rest of the island. Most days, Hawaii is blessed with the wonderful “air-conditioning of its tradewinds but sometimes a particularly windy day may present a challenge to hair-dos and wedding veils.  Depending on the location, we do our best to hold the ceremony out of the wind but being out-of-doors, its really Mother Natures call.

A WORD TO THE WISE
If possible, plan to be in Hawaii at least twenty-four hours before your wedding. Once you are here, be liberal with a high-factor sunscreen. The cooling trade winds are wonderful but the Hawaiian sun is the most intense of the fifty states. Hawaii is a paradise but it is not innocent. Be careful for your personal belongings and valuables. Locked cars and car trunks will not adequately protect your things. Enjoy yourself but keep your stuff with you.

RATUITIES
Here in Hawaii, "tipping" is an expression of Aloha (appreciation, honor, love) rather than obligation. We and all of our vendors (limo drivers, photo-videographers, musicians) endeavor to offer the best services at the most reasonable prices possible simply because that is what Aloha does. We all have chosen relatively modest life-styles so that we can continue to do this in spite of Hawaii's tight economy. Any blessing you wish to extend to any of us is never expected but always appreciated and gratefully received.
